LISBON HIGHLIGHTS AND BELEM DISTRICT – free tour on Saturday morning (13th July)

On Saturday the 13th, from 9 am to 1 pm, there will be a free tour of Lisbon city center and Belém.

Located on the north bank of the Tagus river, Lisbon is, since mid 1200s, the main city of Portugal and the second oldest capital in Europe, after Athens. It acumulates thus several layers of history that we invite you to unveil with us.

At 9 am we shall start at the heart of Belém district, site of the old harbour from where many crucial sea voyages departed for faraway lands to be discovered by the Portuguese.

Upon our arrival, we will admire the magnificent St. Jerome Monastery, World Heritage Site for its "Manueline" style, unique expression of a very specific artistic language.

Then, you will take some time to taste the famous "Pastel de Belém" (custard tart).

Afterwards, we will admire another World Heritage Site, the Belém Tower, as well as the more contemporary Discoveries Monument. Being there, you will have some time for a photo stop, since the views from both the riverside and the Atlantic Ocean are great.

Around 11 am we will then continue with a scenic drive towards the city center, through the Main avenue to Downtown district.

The best way to explore and feel Lisbon everyday life is walking, so we will continue to the Commerce Square and we will admire the beautiful Tagus estuary, the 25th April Bridge and the Christ the King monument.

Each participant will receive a whisper (áudio guide) to hear the tour guide explanations.

Anyone wishing to return to Almada by bus should be back at Praça dos Restauradores (or another meeting point defined on the day) by 1 pm.

Register soon, as spots are limited!
